click Start > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection
If you can’t find Remote Desktop Connection in Accessories, you can try searching for it. Click Start and in field above the Start button (where it reads: “Search programs and files”) type: remote desktop connection
In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click on “Show Options”
Enter your work computer’s name or a provisioned virtual machine name (done by IT). Generally, the name will be your department’s abbreviated name and 3 numbers, followed by ".naropa.edu"
The information needed is taped to the top or front of your work computer
(eg: It will say "AA000" for "AA000.naropa.edu").
Username will be your domain/email user name. This is everything before the @ in your Naropa email address (eg: NAROPA\jdoe)
You can save credentials if you like.
Click “Connect.”
You may see a certificate warning. You can click “Don’t ask again…” and then click “Yes.”
Once connected to your computer via Remote Desktop, you will see a connection bar in the top center of the Remote Desktop Connection window. You will really only need to use the buttons on the right (Minimize, Restore, and Close). To switch between your home computer and your remote session, click the Minimize button. To maximize your Remote Desktop window again, click the Remote Desktop icon.
Note: You can’t connect to a computer that's asleep, hibernating or powered off, so make sure the settings for sleep and hibernation on the remote computer are set to Never. (Hibernation is not available on all computers.)
If you are planning on remoting into the computer at your desk please send an email with your Computer name to helpdesk@naropa.edu with the subject line "VPN Computer Request - Need IP Reserved".
